Why Real Estate Pros May Not Want to Overlook TikTok

TikTok has quietly turned into a major hub for real estate content, especially among younger buyers and renters. Short videos on home tours, renovation tips, mortgage basics, and neighborhood guides now pull in millions of views. For many people under 40, the app has replaced traditional listing sites and agent blogs as the first place they look for housing insights. But a surprising number of real estate professionals have yet to treat TikTok as a serious marketing tool.

Some agents worry the platform feels too casual or unprofessional. Others say they simply don't have the time to learn a new algorithm or produce video content. Industry observers, however, argue that ignoring TikTok means missing a direct line to first-time homebuyers and Gen Z renters who are actively searching for guidance. These users often prefer short, authentic clips over polished brochures or long email newsletters.

The challenge is not just about posting listings. Successful real estate accounts on TikTok tend to offer value beyond property photos. Agents who break down interest rates, explain closing costs, or show the reality of a fixer-upper often build trust faster than those who only push for sales. The platform rewards consistency and personality, not production budgets.

For agents who are already stretched thin, adding TikTok might feel like one more chore. But the shift in how younger audiences consume information is not slowing down. Those who adapt early may find themselves with a steady stream of leads that competitors are leaving on the table.
